News SDENG Team Visits the Frigate Nikiforos Fokas at Volos Port
DATE 04/07/2025

As part of the 2025 Naval Week celebrations, the SDENG ENGINEERING BUREAU team had the unique opportunity to visit the Hellenic Navy frigate Nikiforos Fokas. Temporarily docked just meters from our offices at the Port of Volos, this vessel was made accessible to the public as a tribute to Greece’s rich maritime heritage.

Launched in 1980, the Nikiforos Fokas is an impressive example of naval engineering, measuring 130 meters in length with a beam of 14 meters. Still actively serving in the Hellenic Navy, the frigate is designed to operate reliably under demanding conditions, showcasing resilience and advanced technological integration.

This visit provided our team with a valuable chance to step away from daily routines and immerse themselves in a real-world example of large-scale engineering complexity. Exploring the frigate’s systems and design highlighted the critical role that precision, durability, and innovation play in sustaining long-term operational effectiveness.

Beyond the technical insights, the experience strengthened our appreciation for the connection between engineering and national heritage. The Nikiforos Fokas is not only a vessel of technology but a living symbol of Greece’s naval tradition and its ongoing commitment to maritime security.

At SDENG, we believe that engaging with such tangible expressions of engineering excellence enriches our perspective, fosters teamwork, and inspires continuous innovation in our projects.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Hellenic Navy and Naval Week organizers for providing this unique opportunity to the community and our team.
